{returning to the catch up posts…}

the day after thanksgiving was addy’s birthday party. she had wanted a star wars birthday party since spencer’s six year old star wars party last march. we kept it really low key with just her cousins and my childhood best friend’s daughter. it was another group effort and so much fun! all in all the pictures turned out pretty good even though we were still jet lagged. i did forget to get a family picture in all the blur.

{an interruption in the catch up posts}

christian’s birthday eve was the final day of a long and cold snowstorm. it ended something like this…

IMG_8485

but go figure, it woke up something like this!
IMG_8487

which was probably a good thing because this is how we all looked…still fighting the icky-ness of some sort of cold bug {but do you notice that trick…i put on eye make-up. almost makes me look well, huh?!}
IMG_8488

the girls picked out their own gifts for daddy, “wrapped” them and made their own cards. i love this age! mercy also believes that giving a gift equals unwrapping the gift for the recipient. she did this for christmas, providing quite a few laughs.

and we left the house. that was our greatest achievement. we spent about ten minutes playing 5 lei “chuckie cheese games” as we call them followed by sushi. because my 5 and 2.5 year old can eat more sushi than you, hands down.

i think we were only at the mall for an entire 1.5 hours before retreating to the warm confines of our apartment. we ended with cake, ice cream and a candle. okay so the girls ended with chunks of gf cake top (saved and thrown in the freezer before furlough!) and christian ended with a piece of his favorite dessert from the pastry counter, “delice” and a mini thing of import kit kat ice cream i found at the grocery store.

plus addy photographed me giving christian two shirts in the infamous victoria secret bag that sarah brought him a birthday gift in all the way from america last year. i am not sure if this bag has actually ever held something from victoria secret but it has held a lot of non-victoria secret gifts, ha!

we have found that you have about twenty four hours before jet lag sets in. so because we landed around 5p (or what it 7p?) on a saturday night…on sunday we promptly went to church and then roseville afterwards for the fountains tree lightening. THEN we crashed. hard. i didn’t take photos of monday. tuesday or wednesday. they were too painful. 🙂

although i have very little proof, we had a very craft+activity-filled few months. i just didn’t take a lot of pictures. i forgot how much work it is to craft with the two and a half year old! whew.

i did get a picture of this random-ness. we watched youtube videos of turkeys and then made one. hey, they liked it. plus, they ate it.

side note, my girls are really into doing performances for me. i would show you a picture of mercy but mercy tends to be bum-nakie during said performances, resulting in a slightly pg-13 version. okay never mind, mercy tends to be nakie-bum all the time.DSC_2909

and literally days before we flew to the usa for furlough, we had a little birthday party for addy. this is one of her new friends, blythe.DSC_2935

that is the entire catch up. yeah right, huh? anyway, these are the last few pictures before furlough. that catch up comes next.

until the jet lag is over, we will definitely be quiet. thank you for a wonderful furlough everyone. we have been really, really blessed by all your love, encouragement and prayers!

In the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee, to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. The angel went to her and said, “Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.” Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be. But the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God. You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever; his kingdom will never end.” “How will this be,” Mary asked the angel, “since I am a virgin?” The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God. Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child in her old age, and she who was said to be unable to conceive is in her sixth month. For no word from God will ever fail.” “I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May your word to me be fulfilled.” Then the angel left her. At that time Mary got ready and hurried to a town in the hill country of Judea, where she entered Zechariah’s home and greeted Elizabeth. When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. In a loud voice she exclaimed: “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the child you will bear! But why am I so favored, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? As soon as the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy. Blessed is she who has believed that the Lord would fulfill his promises to her!”

In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. (This was the first census that took place while Quirinius was governor of Syria.) And everyone went to their own town to register. So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them. And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.” When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.” So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told. On the eighth day, when it was time to circumcise the child, he was named Jesus, the name the angel had given him before he was conceived.

After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem and asked, “Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.” When King Herod heard this he was disturbed, and all Jerusalem with him. When he had called together all the people’s chief priests and teachers of the law, he asked them where the Messiah was to be born. “In Bethlehem in Judea,” they replied, “for this is what the prophet has written: “ ‘But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for out of you will come a ruler who will shepherd my people Israel.’ ” Then Herod called the Magi secretly and found out from them the exact time the star had appeared. He sent them to Bethlehem and said, “Go and search carefully for the child. As soon as you find him, report to me, so that I too may go and worship him.” After they had heard the king, they went on their way, and the star they had seen when it rose went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was. When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. And having been warned in a dream not to go back to Herod, they returned to their country by another route.
